nutrition

Children enrolled in Head Start receive breakfast and lunch and a snack daily,
Meals are free for all enrolled children, and meals are served family style.

  • Our nutrition program is designed to help meet children’s daily nutritional needs.

  • Staff are trained on how to create a pleasant meal atmosphere, which develops acceptance to a variety of foods and creates positive attitudes towards eating.

  • Nutrition activities for children are conducted in the classroom on a weekly basis.

  • Snack/meal time is viewed as an opportunity for learning and developing good health habits, socialization skills, self-help skills, decision-making skills, and communication skills.

  • Each child is ensured of receiving a nutritional assessment. Identifying specific nutritional needs of individual children is one of the program’s responsibilities.

  • Special dietary needs and feeding problems, especially of children with disabilities, will be given individual attention.

  • Our nutritionist is available to parents for one on one nutritional counseling.

CACFP

The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is a federal program that provides reimbursements for nutritious meals and snacks to eligible children and adults who are enrolled for care at participating child care centers, day care homes, and adult day care centers. CACFP also provides reimbursements for meals served to children and youth participating in afterschool care programs, children residing in emergency shelters, and adults over the age of 60 or living with a disability and enrolled in day care facilities. CACFP contributes to the wellness, healthy growth, and development of young children and adults in the United States.
